Foreclosures, Homelessness and Help in Time of Need

Despite the projections of some that the national economy is getting better, the ongoing foreclosure crisis has caused untold suffering and pain for countless people across the country. In San Joaquin County, California, since the crisis began, there have been approximately 30,000 foreclosures! If one were to calculate the impact, averaging residency at 3.5 people per home, some 105,000 people have had to relocate. Consequently, rentals are having a heyday, shelters and missions are overflowing, and the number of homeless people wandering the streets has swelled to levels unseen in recent memory.
Enter Ambassadors for Christ, a loose net coalition of concerned Christians who have gone the extra mile. From their humble beginnings of a husband and wife handing out meals from beneath the cross-town freeway, in Stockton, California, this outreach has grown to tens of dozens of volunteers serving meals, handing out clothes, coordinating medical services, counseling, prayer and lots of love.
The results of this effort are not easily calculated. Hundreds of homeless individuals have received assistance and encouragement “under the bridge.” Yet, beyond that, people from every walk of life and every imaginable denomination are coming together in unity to participate in a cause that is much larger than themselves. The effects of these random acts of kindness are creating a movement that is gaining momentum and rippling throughout the region.
Please take a moment to review the following video of this astounding demonstration of the love of God in people for their neighbors…

And while you're at it, please lift them up in prayer.

Great article Mark. As you know I love doing for others and I know that as Americans, in times of crisis' we are among some of the most generous people. It was great to watch the video and see some of my old friends helping. Thanks for sharing. Linda D

Hi Linda,

Glad you liked the article and delighted to hear that you recognized some of the people who were being a part of the solution. It's true, Americans do pull together in times of need. It really brings out the true character in people... and sometimes we can be quite surprised.

Please keep Michelle in your prayers,

Mark

Thank you for the article. Wonderful comments! Our church in Fort Myers has a "Gathering Place" each Saturday where people in need can come and have a free meal and take some goods home from our pantry. My husband and I will be handling the outreach taking food to those who cannot come to the church. We are working with an inner city church. This is the real spirit of giving -- not expecting government to do it for us!

Hi Anonymous,

I had no idea that the UK was experiencing a similar housing foreclosure crisis. I'm sorry if help was not available for those in need. America is an odd place sometimes. We swing both ways on the spectrum from charity to disparity.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Love,

Yes, it is good to see people helping those in need. Maybe this summer we can help "under the bridge."
