You Lifted Me - A Father's Day Poem

I wanted to say I love you
But life went by too fast
So I thought that I would
write you
Before this moment passed

It does not seem that long ago
That I stood by your side
Up to my neck in winter snow
I thought I would have died

So then, you gently lifted me
And set me on your chest
You said, "It's only to my knee...
My child, you can rest

For not too many years ago
The snow was to my eyes
I could not move an inch, you know
Because of my small size

But now, as you can plainly see
I've grown into a man
And look, the snow is to my knee
So try to understand

Sometimes your life will seem like snow
So high you will not see
A path, a road, by which to go
To reach your destiny

But if you'll only lift your hand
To our Father above
He'll lift you up until you stand
Because of His great love"
