Want Sex? Why Wait?

Many people think of sex as a form of physical intimacy between two people that love one another. They would consider sexual intercourse as something that is most respectfully shared within the bonds of holy matrimony. Other people, quite frankly, just don't give a hoot about marriage. When it comes to sex, they get it whenever or wherever they can... no strings attached. Then there are those who pay for sex.
It would seem that no matter how you approach a sexual relationship there is some cost involved. Whether the cost is emotional, mental, physical, spiritual or financial, there is always a price to be paid. Unfortunately, there are far too many men, and women too I suppose, who approach a sexual encounter as something that they can get on the run.
Remember the sexual revolution of the 60's? Everybody was talking about free love, when in fact they were referring to free sex. What ever happened to those sexually liberated individuals? Should anyone be surprised that the sexual revolution was followed right on its heels by the AIDS epidemic? Or is it any coincidence that this same generation had the highest divorce rate in the history of our nation? Just think of all those shattered families and emotionally traumatized children. And then too, one might wonder about all those individuals that found themselves in confusing love triangles for which they could find no other solution but drugs and alcohol to relieve their regrets and broken hearts.
I am sure there are plenty of individuals who could debate the causes for the change in attitude towards sexual relationships in the
It would seem that Americans, and now much of the industrial world, have discovered a "new" attitude towards sex which promises all of the excitement of unrestrained pleasure without any responsibility. Free sex! No obligations. No commitments. No explanations or excuses. Just, wham bam… thank you ma'am… or man. Who cares? Why should it matter? Nobody is going to get hurt. Right?
Well let's see… lies, cons, broken families, single parent children, child support, poverty, substance abuse, disease, remorse, depression, suicide, homicide… all because of one meaningless sexual encounter? Yes, it happens all the time. Free? I don't think so.
So, what is a person to do?
Hey… how about if people decide to have a little more dignity in themselves and respect for others? How about if we try to be a little more patient, a little more self-sacrificing and a lot more thoughtful and considerate about the consequences of our behavior not only on ourselves but on others? How about something novel, like loving someone more than we love ourselves and dedicating one's self to the future welfare of another human being? How about remembering that there is a God and we are not him? And how about doing what God has asked us to do… CLEAVE - DON'T LEAVE. Hold on to our partner. Don't let go. And maybe… just maybe… a little delayed gratification will pay off with a meaningful lifelong relationship that provides all of the pleasures that love can afford.

Top-level comments on this article: (7 total)Very well laid out Mark, with some very practical reasons why God would have us wait until marriage. Though some might try to justify their actions, these are truths and consequences that have nothing to do with faith but are very much a reality. Good job on all your articles.Thank you, Teresa. I sure appreciate your encouragement. God bless you always.
Excellent Mark! I hope that one day I will be as wise when it comes to writing. Love and blessings darlin' :-)Well, you know what they say, Michelle. Wisdom comes with age. HmmmThen forget it! I will be forever young. LOL
Very well written, you are of course right, sex like everything else in life is not for free it has consequences. I had the most bizzare debate on a forum recently with a mother who said she 'commended her 13yr old son for taking condoms to the school prom'.What a sad world we live in when mothers commend a young 13yr old boy seeking to have sex with an even younger girl (unlikely an older girl would be interested). Her pride came from knowing her son could 'talk to her' (as well as taking precautions) and this seemed her priority rather than risking the unpopularity of actually being a parent to her child and advising him that under no circumstances at all must he persuade or succumb to having sex with an underage girl.If respect and self restraint is not taught early, we can't expect to reverse the conditioning later on in adult hood.Thank you, Creative Blogger. You are so right... we just can't turn back the hands of time and undo the damage that has been done by a bad choice.Very good comment, 'Creative'. The last statement of yours is absolutely right. You also brought a very good example of 13yrs old. I dont understand the mental state of these parents. What they think. what they do. I am really burdened for these people. Anyway, May God Bless you too as well as the writer of this article.
An wonderful article. Thanks for posting it. Nobody cares for these issues these days. But its good that you became a representative of all of us who are desparately wanting to be one one change agents in the society for God's glory. Its time 'not to think' but 'to act upon'. Keep writing these kind of articles and keep making people aware of wrong things that they indulge in. I will be publishing a similar kind of article, because I have a burden too in this regard. May God Bless you abundantly...Thank you, Candles. I am looking forward to reading your article when it comes out. In the mean time I would like to invite you to my fanclub . Hope to see you there. God bless you.I agree! It is sad to see that there is not enough caring about these issues. I just wrote an ariticle that I found I was extremely passionate about and not to many seem to really care. Lord help us! Should we teach same-sex marriage in school? God bless you Mark and also to The Candles. We will try together, we will pray together, God will surely going to use us. Thanks Michelle.
A society that knows no restraint needs an article like this every once in a while. Great job, Mark! Thanks, Terry. It's good to see that even though we can banter on some things that we can totally agree on others. God bless you.
Great and interesting article, you raise some excellent points here. I hope it will reinforce in people's minds that sex is rarely (if ever) consequence free! Thanks, Ben. I appreciate your comments.
It's really such an appropriate and timely article. What you've said about there being too much sex on TV etc. is absolutely true. I'm glad to see that someone thinks this way. Great job, Mark.Thank you, Sulagna. I appreciate your comments and I have joined your fan club! Thanks Mark! :)Keep up the good writing, Sulagna!
