Perceptions of Affections

What perceptions have been planted in my heart?
What affections have they sprouted
from that part?
Are the stars in the sky
Just illusions to my eye?
Have my thoughts all been deceptions from the start?

When I think of all the things I love
I say a prayer and thank my God above
All the heavens seem to be
Created just for me
And the world seems as gentle as a dove

When my heart is frightened and afraid
I curse the very day that I was made
All the world seems to be
An ugly place to me
And I'm left feeling angry and dismayed

Between my mind and heart there is a place
Where the two come together face to face
The perceptions I see
Belong to only me
And to no one else among the human race
