The Joy of Running (Poem)

Wordcasters
As I glanced out my window
I saw a curuious sight
Two tiny children
Running in circles
As they played
Around and around
They whirled about
Without stopping
Or pausing for air
Silently and seriously
Yet, smiling all the while
They ran and they dashed
They flew and they flashed
And they hurried along the way
And as I watched them
It occurred to me
By sensational memory
A tickle in my tummy
Told me tales
Of my childhood history
What joy to run!
To be a child
With boundless energy
To dance and prance
And hop and dash
Without infirmity
But, now I am old
And all worn out
And I don't run
Unless I must
But deep inside of me
There is a memory
Of the joy of running
Like a child© 1996 Mark Parsec
Mark, very nice! Your poem brought back childhood memories of running about in the country. We had relays just for the fun of it. A beautiful poem, Mark. Thanks for sharing.Thank you, Avis. It sure would be nice to have that kind of energy again, wouldn't it?
Yes thank you for sharing! Your poem too reminds me of some fond childhood memories. I can remember running on the track team and swimming on the swim team with what seemed liked bountless amounts of energy. I too now feel as though those days are gone.
Running was never my thing, but your poem does remind me of the carefree days of childhood. Thanks for the memories. Thanks David! I hope you have a great day.
